after nearly four(!) weeks on keuka lake, we are finally headed home to ps! we’ve had a wonderful summer here soaking up loads of cool rainy mornings and warm breezy afternoons, canoeing, swimming, berry picking , hiking and lounging about dockside. we’ve baked and eaten gobs and gobs of cookies, fresh fruit tarts, pies and all things summery-sweet. i can hardly believe another season at the lake has come and gone (our last as a family of 3!)
while it’s always a bit sad to say goodbye, there’s nothing quite like coming home. i’m mostly looking forward to snuggling ben and getting our place (and ourselves) ready to welcome baby this fall! i promise more frequent updates and musings from pretty in ps soon, until then, here are a few of my favorite moments (and meals!) from our summer on the lake…
hope you are all having an equally wonderful summer full of friends and family! can’t wait to see you back in palm springs later this week!
hello, hello from the lake!
we arrived here nearly a week ago to a house full of yummy food, delicious wine and cozy beds. we’ve been spending our days on the dock, toes in the water, drinks in hand, not an ipad or phone in sight. i’m thinking my updates will be sparse in the weeks to come-the sun and rain and water are all just too good to pull away from for more than a few moments. summer as it should be!
as i sit here gazing out the window, rain streaming steadily down the lake and the scent of homemade chocolate chip cookies wafting in from the kitchen, i am instantly reminded of the absolute joy the most simple summer delights can bring. though there have already been far too many of these lovely moments to capture (family sails, fabulous meals, blissful cups of morning coffee on the porch-to name a few!) here are just a handful of our favorite lake moments so far…
stay tuned, my darling readers, more photos and posts coming soon!
so, this gorgeous french château rents for less than $50/ night…hello!
after a week of sunshine and beach lounging we’re finally back from mexico! we had such a wonderful trip. how is it that the best vacations, the ones where you really just do nothing at all, always fly by in a flash?! true to form, this particular trip was over in a blink. we closed ourselves into a lovely little all-inclusive number on monday evening and didn’t emerge from our beachy cocoon for six whole days! lazy mornings of coffee and pastries blended seamlessly into afternoon sandcastles, swims and picnic lunches on the beach. Q blasted superheroes in the waves while ben and i read books (of the old-fashioned paper persuasion) under big billowy palms. as far as activities go, there was, of course, a daily ice cream run or two, margaritas cabana side, and an ocassional stroll along the beach. and, thanks to baba and gido, a few romantic dinners just for two. truth: traveling with grandparents is the absolute best!
no phones, no computers. just sunshine, ocean, food and family. it was absolute perfection.
here are a few of my favorites from our week…
there’s just nothing better than getting all packed up for a big trip…
see you all next week!
sooooooo, we’re headed to mexico in less than a month! ben’s family recently ‘won’ a trip to cancun in a silent auction and generously offered to take us along for the ride! woohoo!
though we’ve flown quite a bit over the last four years, this will be Q’s first trip outside the country. hello, passports! we’re so excited to kick up our feet with a few cocktails and just lounge about on the beach for a whole week. and the best part…we’ll have enthusiastic grandparent babysitters at the ready! what could be better?!
in the spirit of pre-trip anticipation i’ve been daydreaming of a few things here and there-namely, embroidered dresses, tacos, sandy toes and heaps of crystal clear blue water…
25 days and counting! yahoo!!!!

evening escapes with my love
road trips for two
and sunset walks on the beach
i. can. not. wait.

there was a great little piece in the new york times this weekend, which i received early on sunday along with some epically delicious scrambled eggs (happy mothers day me), basically highlighting the benefits and added pleasure of anticipation…
whether it’s a wonderful trip to paris, a party or a move across country, it turns out that planning, reading about and generally getting really excited for an experience adds to the pleasure of the experience itself-regardless of whether the actual event is a win or a total bust! how awesome is that?!
it’s a known fact that ben and i are big daydreamers. we’re always planning new adventures and cooking up fabulous plans for trips, parties, homes, babies…you name it, we’re excitedly talking about it!
this week we’re hooked on the idea of a cabin in montana. we both have this lovely, romantic notion of a secluded little plot of land, a simple modern home, lots of glass and mountain views. we’d spend those hot PS summers wandering the woods and learning to fly fish! christmases would be spent with our whole family cozied up by the fire, bundled in blankets and sweaters, big glasses of red wine in hand.
it might be a few years off (or we might very well decide next week that a bungalow on the northern coast of california is a much cooler option) but for now, our daydreams of montana feel exciting and energizing and, according to stephanie rosenbloom, they’re actually making us happier. so, cheers to all those monday morning google searches and pinterest pins…daydreamers of the world rejoice!

we’ve just returned from another wonderful trip to the lake. this time we surprised my mom for her 60th birthday! we’ve been scheming for months and i’m happy to report the surprise went off without a hitch! we spent the remainder of the week eating cake, picking pumpkins (and grapes!), drinking great wine, jumping in leaves, and even managed to squeeze in a few crisp boat rides around the lake. it was perfection.
while our desert home is lovely and sunny and blissfully warm 354 days a year (i know, right?!), there’s just something about autumn in new york.
here are some fun shots from the trip.
ps. stay tuned later this week for my favorite recipes to inspire those cozy feelings of fall (no matter what temperature it is where you call home).
